Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to create a Profile to be able to search for companies?
No but you will need to complete a Profile to be able to apply to a company that interests you.

2. Is it possible to get sporadic updates from Career Spy to let me know when new companies relevant to my searches come on to the website?
Absolutely. Provided you are registered we will keep you updated with news of new companies that might be of interest to you.

3. What’s to stop me applying directly to a target company rather than through Career Spy?
Absolutely nothing! Remember though, if you send your CV speculatively to a company, there is no guarantee that your CV will be stored on a database for future opportunities and may be discarded if there is no suitable vacancy at that time. By applying through Career Spy, your details can be accessed at any point by your target employer and by updating your Profile, you can keep them abreast of any notable changes in your role or career.
Our unique system ensures that companies are aware of recent changes and guarantees that your details are seen by key decision makers.

4. Can I request to have my application to a company withdrawn at any time?
Yes. You have a number of choices; you can disable your entry so it is inactive but ready for updating and re-use anytime in the future or you can delete your Profile entirely from our system.

5. How long will you store my details for?
Career Spy stores your details until you decide to delete them. We are registered under the Data Protection Act.

6. Is there a limit to how many companies I can apply to?
No. You may apply to any individual organisation listed. There is no need to apply more than once though as your details will be stored by each company until you decide to disable or delete your application.

7. What happens when I update My Profile?
Any updates you make to your Profile can then be seen by organisations that you have already applied to work for without you having to make a new application. Our unique system ensures the companies are aware of any changes you make.

8. Can any other parties access my details?
No. Only companies you have applied to will have access to view your details. Career Spy can access your details as we manage a number of databases on our clients’ behalf.

9. If a company doesn’t contact me does that mean I am unsuitable to work for them?
No. Companies will go through periods of doing very little recruitment so a lack of communication does not necessarily mean you are not of interest to a business you apply to.

10. Should I ever chase an application to a company?
There is no need to do this. You are instantly made aware by the website if there is a problem that prevents your application reaching its destination so your details will always arrive securely unless you are informed otherwise.

11. If a Company Profile does not show any “Urgent Requirements”, does this mean they are not recruiting?
Not at all. The “Urgent Requirement” section can be utilised by companies if they need particular vacancies to be filled quickly but this does not mean that they are not actively recruiting confidentially across other departments. Many companies choose not to use the "Urgent Requirements" section at all to ensure that they continue to receive a steady flow of applications across all areas of their business.
